Drill Holes

Just updating my video (pic) log of the project. I think I am going to place additional support just next to the large overflow opening. Thoughts?

Blueboard

Just updating my video (pic) log of the project. Progress is slow this week. Damn day job.

Tonight I attached blueboard to the enitre frame. I plan to paint and add baseboard to match perpendicular wall from which this penisula will extend.

Don't worry, I have not forgotten about the doors.

Hope to move to location between living room and kitchen this weekend.

Did you add the additional bracing? If the tank has the black plastic trim top and bottom then theoretically their wont be any weight in the area around the hole any way.

With the small hole in the stand, I ended up making a bulkhead tool from 1/4" plate and a MIG welder.

Glad to see you went with a larger hole, you won't regret the choice.

Hi Rob - Thanks, as always, for your feedback. The way I see it, if I ask for advice and opinions, based predominantly on peoples' personal experiences it is in my best interst to listen intently and seriously consider what I am being told.

Call me old fashion...

I know this is waaaay off topic but I have a question for either Marc or Dave...how do I get a RBNE member banner next to my name...is the only way to do it donate...not that I would mind donating but things like food and rent have to come first.

Good Evening,

I finally have the basement filtration room wired.

We (Dad and I) installed multiple (5) outlets on the back (cement) wall of the room on a dedicated 20 amp feed. The sump
will be position a couple feet out from this wall to allow my access to all sides and I'll be able to unplug individual devices (pumps, skimmer, heater, etc) as needed.

Making progress, albeit gradual.

P.S. please don't mind the mess (hanging wires) I did not feel like tacking them up today.

One small step for Rudy, One Giant Leap for Rudy's aquarium!

Well the weather is finally cooperating enough that I was able to move the tank and stand from the basement to it's final resting place.

Up next, a bit of finish work on the stand, plumbing, and hood construction. Yahoo!

Speaking of plumbing, what do people use for cementing their PVC? Regular old PVC sealent/cement, or is there a specific brand commonly used for aquarium plumbing?

I use the regular stuff of the shelf from HD Lowe's etc. I usually also use the primer. There's different thicknesses for the PVC cement I think I generally grab the medium stuff.

As you can see from the pic below, tonight I placed and secured all of my bulkhead fittings.

The only catch was I had to place the flange side of the CL intakes, located within the overflow wall, on the inside of the overflow chamber. Facing the other direction did not leave me enough space for a 90 degree elbow. I think it will work out for the better anyway providing plenty of clearance for the intake screen from the overflow wall.

The project is getting really rewarding now. I hope to test for leaks by the end of this coming weekend.

Good Night, Keith

P.S. stayed tune for more plumbing updates (pics) throughout the week.

P.S.S. plumbing advice is always welcome.
