Wireless Bridges

Does anyone know how to set a wireless bridge up and connect it to my AC III? Maybe it is set up and my AC II isn't? Just dunno about these network things. Wow is this thing strange. The instructions really do not do much for me.

To set it up I connected it directly to the Router just so that it would find it...

I have the following router settings:

Internet Port

IP Address xx.xx.178.233
DHCP DHCPClient
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Domain Name Server
68.87.71.226
68.87.73.242

Lan Port
MAC Address 00:18:4D:9D:1B:54
IP Address 192.168.80.1
DHCP ON
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Hope that this helps.

Rick

so you need to do a couple of things on the ACIII and your router firewall.

First of all, the ACIII doesn't do DHCP. You need to give it a static IP. Something not in the DHCP scope. If you are not doing email alerts, the DNS stuff doesn't matter but I would set it up anyway. For example:

IP Address 192.168.80.10 (assuming not in DHCP scope)
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Port 80.

Then on your router, under port forwarding, you need to send all port 80 requests received by the router to 192.168.80.10. Normally there is a defualt HTTP entry that you just need to select.

On the ACIII, the port needs to be changed to something other than 80 if you have a web server listening for port 80.

On your internal network, you access the web server on the ACIII by http://192.168.10 if the port is 80 or http://192.168.80.10:8080 for port 8080.

I should probably mention that the router port forewarding is only needed if you are going to publish your ACIII on the internet.

one thing that is not yet clear to me..
regarding this:

"On the ACIII, the port needs to be changed to something other than 80 if you have a web server listening for port 80."

I'll have to check again but I did not see a setting for "port"...

Anyone else reading this should watch out regarding the email settings: Do not mess this up or you will no longer be able to send email. I just turned my email off as I really am not controlling anything yet. I think that the SMTP Email setting is SMTP.comcast.net.
There are also settings for From Email ... What should go into this?

Matter of fact.. if someone has this feature working I'd love for them to post the settings that work!!!

Thanks again Salthubbers!

So here is what you do based on this info from your router:

IP Address xx.xx.178.233
DHCP DHCPClient
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Domain Name Server
68.87.71.226
68.87.73.242

Lan Port
MAC Address 00:18:4D:9D:1B:54
IP Address xxx.xxx.80.1
DHCP ON
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

==================================================

Page 19 of the ACII manual - Net Setup:
- IP Address = 192.168.80.XX where XX is NOT assigned by the DHCP server
- Netmask = 255.255.255.255.0
- Gateway Address = 192.168.80.1
- DNS IP = 68.87.71.226
- Alt DNS Address = 68.71.73.242
- HTTP Port = 80 (this is the default and will work if this is the only web server. BTW, this is not on page 19 for some reason)
================================================== ==
UNDER EMAIL

- Email = ON
- From-address = (doesn't matter what email address you put here valid or otherwise)
- SMTP Server = smtp.comcast.net
- To Address = (a valid email address)
- Alt To Address = (another valid address - I send it to my text message)
- Email Auth = ON
- Auth User = somebody (This is a valid Comcast account like somebody@comcast.net. )
- Auth Passord = (The valid password for somebody)
- Alarm = ON
- Re email Delay (the default is 5 minutes - I have mine set to 60)

The deal is that the smtp server at Comcast will NOT relay an unauthenicated, aynomonus message. You have to pretend to be a POP3 email client sending authenicated email through your Comcast email account. Anything else on the part of Comcast would provide spammers what is known as an open relay. A very bad thing that would soon have zillions of spam relaying though the Comcast server.

Hope this helps...

You probably have an old firmware. Check the Neptune site. Remember, the default port 80 is just fine unless you have more than one webserver that you eed to access from the internet through your router.

HOWEVER, the port will not effect email.

What kind of router did you say you had?

Router is a Netgear... but.. I had the wrong PW in the controller... Just realized it. Seems to work now. All I need now is for Neptune to return the defective DC8 I sent to them. It was popping the GFI when I plugged it in.

I believe that this is a very valuable post regarding what NHLIVES has posted. Thanks!
