| Sorry for your loss Dave. Keep me posted on the Basset Hound pups. I may be looking for one but I'm very particular about the breed. Here's my Basset that my ex-wife put down without asking me. Felt the loss for a long time. ![]()

| That's really sad Dave. It's amazing how much a part of the family they become.

| Unbelieveably the Bassett puppy that I wanted out of the litter didnt make it. Leroy how knowledgable are you about the breed? I've been reading all I can but that alone probably isnt going to help me choose. Ant tips on waht to look for in the pups and the parents?

| well, funny thing .... my mom breeds them.... i'll send her an email and see what she says... i think she is going to have a litter in a few months but i'm not 100% sure... Maybe i can hook ya up with the family discount ... let me see what she says about what to look for i know she just got a new pup a few days ago too... |

| i just sent her an email... we will wait to see what she says! Well, we can wait, see what she says, and if you want i can ask her what she would sell me one for and i'll pass that on to you for the heck of it lol As far as other breeders in the area i'm not too sure if she knows or not but I do know she had her new pup flown in from somewhere so .... |
| ||||
| lol well just the same i'll let you know what she says... it's one she intends to breed so i'm sure she bought him for some odd reason whether it be markings or color or blah blah blah... trust me she knows her stuff... I'd have no idea my Ragdoll was a mitted seal point if she didn't tell me lol |

| ok well she pretty much said what Leroy said..... but she does make a good point about making sure the breeder you are getting it from does a good job of keeping up on those things too here ya go lol HI sweetie! How's everything? yes, I do plan on breeding - but my male's a little young yet. and neither Stella nor Loo Loo has gone in to heat yet, but they should start soon. so - if he wants to wait for me, it'll probably be sometime in the fall, and of course, the family discount. my lines for stella and the male are awesome, but if he just wants a pet puppy, then it would be one of Loo Loo's. I would sell him one of hers for 350. still awesome lines from Porter - 36 Championships in his pedigree. I can also refer him to someone who has really good bassets, or he can go to Loo Loo's breeder. The only reputable breeders in NE are very very pricey and their bassets aren't as good as Stella and Porter. shipping, if he goes out of state, runs around 250. I know a breeder that uses a delivery service for 300 (probably more now) and I used that for Stella. Bassets can have a lot of problems with their feet, so their front legs should be fairly straight, tight paws (not spread apart) and a pretty straight topline. they're supposed to have really baggy skin (just called "skin") and the ears should come out of the head level with the eyes. the longer the better, but also - check them carefully for dirt etc. he wants to be sure the breeder is clipping nails, cleaning ears (a nonstop job - I can vouch for that) they also can have hip dysplasia and knee or spine problems. ask about mom and dad and what their health is like. and previous puppies. a lot of people have DNA certified males - certified genetically by the AKC. Loo's Loo's breeder has pups available by Loo Loo's dad who's dan certified - he's raised his prices a bit - $400 I think, but he should be posting his pics soon. he's VERY easy to work with - really doesn't care why you want a puppy - and Loo Loo arrived with a UTI and then she had an abscess in one of her ears. you get what you pay for, but the trade off was the dna cert. plus I like her - she's naughty but a very sweet girl. love you Mom |

| Just as an aside -- I can hook you up with a breeder near me who actually breeds them for hunting. He is looking for people to adopt older dogs. They have lived most of their lives in kennels so may need some adjusting. He's a great guy and the dogs are super healthy. He's been trying to get me to adopt one for a while but I keep trying to simplify. We went for a running of the hounds which is hysterical! Ever watch about 25 bassets chasing snow hares? What a great day out. He just did another one this past weekend but we missed out.... let me know if anyone is interested. These are beautiful doggies. But they are not pups. |

| I have given serious consideration to adopting. There is a Basset rescue right down the street from me in Raymond, but with 3 other little lapdogs already in the house I would be concerned adding an adult to the mix.
