| Spent $125 on plants yesterday for the flower garden -- mostly adding in some shrubs and replacing dead perennials. We are supposed to be getting a veggie garden going -- first time in years. We had one when when we lived in Milford -- lots of corn in it. We battled with the bugs, battled with the chipmunks and squirrels until we had a really good crop of corn. Went away for the weekend and some a$$hole stole every single ear of corn. Every stalk was left standing but they went in and took every single ear -- did not even leave us one. That was 12 years ago. I guess you can say we were a little bit discouraged! But, we decided to do one this year but I am not sure we can get the ground ready in time ... |

| You need lots of manure!

| Yea -- the field is full of horse manure which has a downside as the seeds will still be there but Shawn is planning on screening the incredible pile of loam. I am thinking this year will be preparing for planting next year. But now that the tank has been cleaned, fishy pictures taken, I need to get my butt outside on this absolutely beautiful day and plant those plants! |

| i have an apartment so a "garden" isnt allowed but i do have a ton of pots with stuff in them. im into really hot peppers so i currently have 38 pepper plants. everything from habaneros to jalapenos, poblanos, tabascos etc.... i also have a couple plum tomato plants and a couple cilantro plants for use in my hot sauce that i make with all my peppers (which will be available for cheap in the fall). my girlfriend has a bunch of flowers but since i know nothing about flowers, all i can tell you is that most of them are purple. we also bought a kiwi tree that seems to be doing well but will still be a few years before we get any fruit. |

| Nice Matt, Jesse who you met at the last meeting loves hot ( Mexican ) type foods, and when I was getting stuff for the garden requested hot pepper plants, but all I could find at the local nursery was Cayane ( sp. ) pepper plants.

| You can buy them in single pots as well. The nursery near my home sells them for a buck a piece. I planted my whole garden for 34 bucks so its well worth the effort when you consider what the cost of fresh produce is gonna look like this summer. I think any tomatoe plant will do fine in a bucket just make sure to drill some drain holes. You can use the steel cages for tomatoes in the buckt to help keep the plant up.

I'll grow anything ... too much to list in the veggie garden everything from Hops and artichokes to watermelon and potatoes ! ... good times I've been into the flowers and shrubs as of late.....I do have tons of flower and veggie pics! lol i even grew a 2.6 lb tomato once and won a growing contest ! lol that was fun.... | Same here, its in the blood. While growing up my father had a Landscaping business which I worked at with him for a few years. He also had a decent greenhouse operation where I worked, and in High school I took all the plant science/horticulture classes. Why I didnt follow that pth after high school I dont know. Fast cars seemed more appealing, and I had a knack for working on machines so an auto mechanic I became.

| I'd like to buy a cheap greenhouse someday! that would be a nice addition to the veggie garden .... i used to get made fun of a lot when i was younger by my friends .... now they are calling me asking me questions ! lol ... I know why you didn't follow it.... after 4 years of college my sister makes less than i do and i don't even have a degree! ... there really just isn't enough money in it IMO ... it sure is fun but it's so hard to make good money doing it .... i also dab in some hydroponics now and then .... it's fun.. a lot like reef keeping.. but instead of trying to take all them nutrients out... you try to put them in! lol |

| yup..Neptune's Harvest is good stuff.. my brother in law did a bunch of tests for them in college on their product. I've used it with my pumpkins with great results!.... seems to help with the mildew and such... good stuff... i do compost the algae i harvest.. or did harvest i should say ... can't grow the stuff anymore ... don't know if i would try the skimmate without composting it first ... and yes lots of people use the waste water to water house plants and such which i know is fine to do! |

| OK, I got three plants today (technically 5, two pots had two plants). One beef steak, one beef master, and one cherry 100. Had to get two bags of soil. So it set me back $21. I'll let you know in 10 to 12 weeks if it was a good investment ![]() Dave - how many holes do you think I should drill in the bottom of each bucket?? |
