Sun Polyps

What's the experience with this non-photosynthetic coral? Obviously, they must be fed? How often and what?

I've been keeping a couple for awhile now. I feed mysis which I shave with a sharp knife while frozen, plus cyclopeeze, and a few other things when I have them. They seem to prefer the mysis mostly. I feed atleast every other night and they do well. Lately though I've been real busy with other things and feeding has slaked off a bit and the do seem to be showing signs of it. At first they are fun and exciting but after awhile they begin to wear on you. Usually I feed my fish just before lights out, the food in the water triggers the suns to open up, then right after lights out I feed them.

That is my worry. Maybe when I am retired...

I'm having the same experience with mine. Very pretty but high maintenance. Marc had suggested the frozen rotifers they have at AG for them and he was right. Mine seem to really like them.

If you're interested in looking at something similar take a look at Dendros. Another coral that requires target feeding but isn't as demanding as the sun polyps. Dendros are however more expensive to purchase.

Dendros are way lower maintenance although not always that easy to come by.
