rgtyhg Pickling Lime. Lets talk about it.

Pickling lime is a cheaper alternative to Kalkwasser (German) for Lime Water.

Pickling Lime works great to make up kalkwasswer.

kalk = lime
wasser = water

It has been reported that pickling lime does not dissolve as thoroughly and may prematurely wear the impeller if you use a power head to stir the kalkwasser solution. Other than that, there should be not concern about using commercially available pickling lime instead of a marine aquarium intent kalkwasser powder.
Chemically there is no difference between pickling lime and kalkwasser. It's two names for the exact same chemical. The dissolution issue is with regard to the grain size. Mrs. Wage's is a little larger powder size then Kent's Kalkwasser.

So, members what other advantages have you found to using the pickling lime, and what kind do you use?

I use Mrs. Wages, and find it to be an excellent source to help bump my PH, and keep my Cal., and ALk levels in check.

I thought kalk was german for calcium. So far no other uses that I have found aside from what it was intended to be used for.

Ooops hold on, I also use it for injecting aiptasia, and colonial hydroids, it does do a number on them, but with sporadic treatment the little nem's are definately getting the better of me.
