Crab ID please

<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->
We have found a couple of stowaways in our LR but they very rarely show themselves and are very reclusive. We havent managed a photo yet but I can give a rough description.

It's definitely a crab, it's got legs and pincers! The legs are yellow ish with dark brown joints, it's pincers are dark brown too, and thats about as much as we have seen of it. Just want to know really if it's friend or foe if possible? Oh, there's 2 of them as well btw.

Thanks in advance!

There are very few crabs that come in as hitchhikers which are even remotely good guys. There are also alot of crabs which havent even been described in scientific literature. The two big families that I am most familiar with are Xanthids and Mithrax. Most hitchhiking crabs fall into the Xanthid more commonly called gorilla crabs and are not safe to keep in a reef tank.

If you get another sighting of him.. check for black tips on the pincers or pointy pincers. That's bad. I finally had to coat hanger one of mine....

Yeah so far Ive found the crab and a little white nudi with yellow feather things off his back. No clue if hes bad or not but hes in a tank where he cant do harm to anything other than the zoos he came in on.Which so far he hasnt bothered them but now I cant find him again.

these little crabs arent worth taking the chance on. none of them are going to be so beneficial that its worth keepig them around. at best theyre gonna be an emrald worth a few bucks.
